Job Title: Paper Machine Superintendent
Location: New Mexico Mill
Reports To: Operations Manager
The Paper Machine Superintendent leads production team operators at the Prewitt, New Mexico Mill. This position is primarily responsible for creating a strong safety culture and work environment, continuously improving the quality, productivity, and efficiency by upskilling each operator. The Machine Superintendent must be a proven leader, with a strong knowledge of the paper making process, paper machines, supporting equipment and paper making skills.
The position reports to the Operations Manager, with an opportunity to become a key part of succession planning for the Mill.
Responsibilities:
- Providing leadership to paper machine personnel to ensure overall safe operations
- Lead safety systems and processes that support achieving annual goals
- Maintain an environment of integrity, respect, accountability and excellence
- Empower and engage teammates to improve department performance and paper making skills
- Teach and empower trouble shooting and root cause analysis to each team
- Identify developmental needs and facilitate training of personnel
- Plan and control maintenance downtime performance
- Assist in the preparation and managing maintenance budget and capital expenditures
- Monitor compliance with standard operating procedures
- Coordinate efforts with operations departments, build productive relationships
- Supports the development of maintenance forecasts and budgets to improve mill profitability
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of safe maintenance practices, including Behavioral Based Safety
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills is essential
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent troubleshooting skills (technical and other)
- General understanding of mill-wide operations
- Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement to identify opportunities and deliver results
- Strong Root Cause Failure Analysis; skills to identify root cause, corrective actions, and execute.
- Proficient computer skills (including MS Office), SAP or equivalent Data Management,
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred. Candidates with commensurate practical industrial maintenance skills and leadership experience may be substituted for a degree and will be evaluated.
- 8 years of experience and leadership responsibilities within a manufacturing industry.
Work Environment:
- The work environment involves following detailed safety precautions.
- Physical Demands: Walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and sitting for intermediate periods of time
- Working Conditions will be split between an office environment and the manufacturing floor.
- Position can be exposed to both hot and cold temperatures, loud noise within the manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work extended hours and be part of the Weekend management coverage rotation.
