Definition: The purpose of this position is to perform facilities and grounds maintenance and maintain a clean and safe working environment. This is accomplished by performing electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry,roof, and building repairs, as well as, maintaining grounds and County facilities custodial needs. Other responsibilities include managing supplies, inventory and performing other duties as needed.

- Performs maintenance and preventive maintenance duties to include, but not limited to; electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, roof, and building repairs identified in work orders.
- Use computer skills to view, track and complete work orders, view and adjust automation system controls. Includes maintenance, custodial duties, and others.
- Maintains grounds by operating lawn and garden tools; weeding, mowing, and trimming; painting curbs and parking lanes; repairing and welding all perimeter fencing, gates, and locks; providing precautionary warnings in work areas; removing snow, ice, and debris from all county facilities in inclement weather.
- Perform custodial duties daily throughout McKinley County facilities/departments. Duties include, but are not limited to, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows, ensuring bathrooms are cleaned and well stocked, taking out trash, and keeping stairwells clean and free of impediments.
- Manages cleaning supplies and custodial equipment; maintaining inventory; submitting purchase orders and invoices; ordering supplies; and distribution per staff and facility.

While preforming duties, employee will be required to:

- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel
- Use of arms and hands to reach for objects
- Climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch
- Talk, and/or hear
- Sit
- Frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
- Use vision for distance, color, and depth perception
- Driving
Working Conditions:
Employee will be frequently exposed to:
- Moving mechanical parts
- Hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions
- High, precarious places
- Fumes and/or airborne particles
- Toxic or caustic chemicals
- Outside weather conditions
- Risk of electrical shock and vibration
- A moderate to occasionally loud noise level
Other Requirements: The incumbent of this position must comply with established safety guidelines of the County. Employee may be required to travel, be on-call, work nights and holidays (as necessary).
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma, or GED equivalent
Preferred Requirements:
- One (1) year of general maintenance experience – or – a combination of school, training, and experience equal to one (1) year.
- Certificate or degree in Construction Technology, HVAC, Electrical or related field.
- Computer Skills: typing skills; knowledge of various computer programs
- Experience working in a local/county government environment.
Certificates and Licenses: Must possess a valid Driver’s License at time of employment and be insurable for liability purposes; and the ability to possess a New Mexico Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire date.
