Kitchen Supervisor/Manager

Full-Time (40 hours/week)


Position Summary:

McKinley Care Assisted Living Home is seeking a dedicated and organized Kitchen Manager to oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, food preparation, and dining services. The Kitchen Manager plays a vital role in ensuring residents receive nutritious, high-quality meals in a safe and clean environment.


Key Responsibilities: Meal Service & Planning

  • Cook and oversee the preparation of three meals per day and two snacks per day for residents.
  • Collect weekly resident meal tickets and ensure dietary needs and restrictions are followed.
  • Complete dietary plans for all new admissions in coordination with care staff.
  • Review and rotate menus for variety, nutrition, and resident satisfaction.
  • Complete a Plan of Action form for any food-related complaints and follow up accordingly.
  • Resident Lunch Buffets on Wednesday and Saturday

Staff Management

  • Recruit, interview, and hire qualified kitchen staff, including cooks and aides.
  • Create and maintain weekly schedules to ensure consistent kitchen coverage.
  • Conduct kitchen employee performance evaluations and provide regular feedback.
  • Ensure all kitchen staff maintain up-to-date Food Handler Safety credentials, CPR/First Aid certification, and TB test results.
  • Train and onboard new staff in accordance with McKinley Care standards.

Inventory & Supply Management

  • Monitor and manage inventory of food, cleaning supplies, and dining equipment.
  • Place orders as needed to ensure the kitchen remains fully stocked while minimizing waste.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks and rotate stock.

Sanitation & Compliance

  • Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen, dining area, and food storage areas.
  • Enforce strict adherence to food safety regulations and PPE requirements.
  • Maintain proper records of sanitation procedures, temperature logs, and training certifications.

Communication & Coordination

  • Coordinate with care staff regarding special dietary needs, allergies, and preferences.
  • Report kitchen-related issues to the Operations Manager in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in quality assurance and staff meetings.

Work Schedule & Expectations

  • Hours: 40 hours per week.
  • Timekeeping: Must clock in and clock out daily using the designated system.
  • Availability to adjust schedule as needed to support kitchen operations, including weekends or holidays when required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary or hospitality certification preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a kitchen management or supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with elder care dietary needs and food safety standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to pass the State of Alaska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) background check criteria.
  • Must be able to comply with the State of Alaska DHHS annual tuberculosis (TB) testing requirements.
