Job Summary:
Escorts patients to rooms and assists in determining medical problems. Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patient histories and vital signs. Prepares exam rooms and instruments for examination and/or testing. Stocks supplies. Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Assists in the referral process. Maintains patient confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational/Licensing:
Graduate from an approved medical office assistant program. Certification as a Medical Office Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistant, National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required. BLS certification required.
Qualifications:
Two to three years of relevant experience. Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications. Skills in taking vital signs. Ability to react calmly and effectively with physicians, patients and co-workers. Current healthcare level CPR certification required. Must be flexible and a quick learner. Ability to multi-task and float to any position. Demonstrates the ability to navigate several computer applications. Ability to operate all technical office equipment. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and confidentiality in dealing with others, in person, electronically and on the telephone. Able to perform work accurately and within rigid time frames.
