Registered Nurse: Labor & Delivery
Position Overview:
Provides general nursing care to patients during labor and delivery and to the mother/baby couplet by performing the following duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care and watches the patient's response to labor, delivery and postpartum phases of pregnancy, aiding and education in breastfeeding as needed.
- Ability to read/interpret Fetal monitor strips and respond appropriately.
- Provides outpatient care: iron infusions, NST’s, assessment of labor, circumcisions, bilirubin checks.
- Promotes wellness for patients during all phases of labor and postpartum through continuous education.
- Provides education and support.
- Documents all events and education.
- Communicates patient's condition to the physician and the nursing supervisor.
- Help other OB staff with keeping skills and learning new procedures and equipment.
- Provide care of mother / baby couplet.
- Aid mother with breastfeeding.
- Help physicians with procedures.
- Helps nurse manager as asked.
- Respectful interactions with patients, physicians, visitors, and co-workers. Continually strives to set up and keep good rapport and working relationships to foster positive intra- and interdepartmental communications.
- Follows department policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Adheres to hospital Safety guidelines.
- Cares for post-surgical hysterectomies
- Helps with emergencies in other nursing units when possible.
- Will work rotating shifts based on the needs of the department. (12-hour shift) every third weekend.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for all patients in the OB unit.
- Clerical duties as needed in the department.
- Maintains inventory and requisitions supplies as needed.
- Monitors equipment for proper functioning; arranges for repairs, as necessary.
- Attends at least 50% of OB staff meetings and reads minutes of all meetings. Attends in-services as asked.
- Helps in Performance Improvement projects and data collection.
- Will float to another department to help when needed.

Qualifications:Education and Experience:
- Minimum of an associate degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of one year around specialty or acute care preferred or adequate orientation.
- Maintain current, active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Dakota
Licenses and Certifications:
- Maintain current BLS certification. If not already certified, must complete the certification within 30 days of hire.
- Maintain current ACLS certification. If not already certified, must complete the certification within 60 days of hire.
- Maintain current Neonatal Resuscitation certification. If not already certified, must complete the certification at the next available training date.
- AWHONN and STABLE when available.
