Position Overview:
The Licensed Plumber manages the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of plumbing systems within a healthcare facility. This role ensures all systems run safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and healthcare regulations to support patient care, staff operations, and infection control standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, support, and repair plumbing systems including water, sewer, gas, and specialized medical systems (e.g., medical gas, vacuum systems if certified)
- Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections on plumbing infrastructure and fixtures.
- Diagnose issues, troubleshoot malfunctions, and complete prompt repairs to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
- Install and repair fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, valves, and piping systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to complete installations and repairs.
- Respond to emergency plumbing situations (e.g., leaks, system failures, flooding) including on call rotations.
- Ensure compliance with North Dakota plumbing codes, safety regulations, and hospital policies.
- Maintain correct records of work orders, maintenance logs, and inspections using CMMS systems.
- Collaborate with facilities, maintenance, and clinical teams to support hospital operations.
- Help with renovations, new construction, and system upgrades within the facility.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment always.

Qualifications:Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Work performed in patient care areas, mechanical rooms, and construction zones.
- Exposure to noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of plumbing codes and safety standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication with clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Diligence and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Qualifications:
- Valid North Dakota Master Plumber License
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years of plumbing experience (healthcare or commercial preferred)
- Knowledge of plumbing systems, tools, and equipment
- Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in a hospital or healthcare environment
- Knowledge of medical gas systems (NFPA certification a plus)
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
