Position Summary and Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with the Assistant Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid to set annual recruitment and enrollment goals.
- Develop and implement a recruitment strategy to meet annual goals.
- Facilitate prospective student campus visits and provide insightful information about the ‘McKendree Experience’. In addition to arranging for a campus tour and admission presentation, the admission counselor should also incorporate the following into the campus visit when possible: faculty meeting, co-curricular programs, and meals.
- Review and discuss financial aid and scholarship opportunities in a manner which conveys that the ‘McKendree Experience’ is a worthy investment for the student and the family.
- Monitor and analyze reports on prospects.
Project Management/Support
- Maintain an extensive knowledge of the functionality of the student information system and initiate discussion about creating procedures that allow for the best and most efficient use of the system.
- Assist with implementation of prospective student communication plan.
- Coordinate community outreach plans.
- Admission Research (to include matriculated and non-matriculated prospects).
- Educating the campus community about the admission process and recruitment opportunities.
- Providing ‘big picture’ ideas and recruitment strategies to meet institutional goals.
Campus Event/ Leadership
- Assist with the training and development of new admission counselors.

Provide leadership and direction in the planning, implementation, and review of campus admission events and other projects during the recruiting cycle. Events and projects include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist in creating a team environment that allows for open dialogue, idea cultivation, and information sharing. This environment should result in the implementation of new projects and ideas.
- Represent the Office of Admission on at least one campus committee.
- Actively participate in professional organizations.
Follow the Office of Admission policies and procedures.
Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Maintain extensive knowledge of the following:
- The ‘McKendree Experience’ to include the intricacies of McKendree’s curriculum, campus resources, and student life along with admission policies & procedures and institutional scholarship & financial aid opportunities.
- Federal, State, and institutional financial policies and regulations.
- Student Information System (Recruiter) and other computer systems (Microsoft Office, Ellucian Colleague).
- Current trends in college counseling and admission.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Conditions
- 40 hours per week
- Evening and weekend work required
- Travel may include overnights during the Fall and Spring
