Position Summary and Key Responsibilities
McKendree University seeks a Cybersecurity Coach and Adjunct Instructor to support the Cyber Defense program within the School of Business. The successful candidate will:
- Serve as the faculty coach for the university’s Capture the Flag (CTF) and other cybersecurity competition teams.
- Provide mentoring, training, and coordination for student participation in regional and national cybersecurity competitions.
- Assist in the design, setup, and maintenance of a cybersecurity practice and testing range, including virtualized environments for teaching and competition preparation.
- Collaborate with faculty and IT staff to ensure range security, reliability, and instructional integration.
- Ideally, teach undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Cyber Defense, such as Network Security, Ethical Hacking, or Digital Forensics.
This position requires a passion for student mentorship, hands-on cybersecurity practice, and applied learning that bridges theory with real-world defense techniques.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, tools, and competition formats (e.g., NCL, NECCDC, CCDC, CTFtime).
Preferred Qualifications:
- College-level teaching or coaching experience.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security , CEH, CISSP, Network , or equivalent.
- Experience in managing cybersecurity labs, virtual machines, or practice ranges.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor students and promote team collaboration.
Work Conditions
Regular pay rate: $2,145.00 for each 3-hour course, per semester. Higher rates may apply for larger course enrollments, labs, or other duties.
