McFatter Technical College is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Fiber Optics Technician Instructor to deliver high-quality instruction in fiber optics technology. The instructor will be responsible for preparing students for careers in telecommunications and fiber optics, including certification through the Fiber Optic Association (FOA) such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) and specialized credentials like CFOS/S (Splicing Specialist) and CFOS/T (Testing Specialist).
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver curriculum aligned with FOA standards and industry best practices.
- Provide classroom and hands-on lab instruction in fiber optic theory, cable preparation, splicing, termination, and testing.
- Prepare students for FOA certification exams and support their career readiness.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, assessments, and progress reports.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all instructional activities.
- Stay current with technological advancements and update instructional materials accordingly.
- Collaborate with program coordinators and advisory committees to align training with workforce needs.
- Participate in program development, marketing, and student recruitment efforts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree or higher in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in fiber optics installation, splicing, and testing.
- Certifications:
- FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) required.
- FOA CFOS/I (Instructor) certification preferred or must be obtained prior to start.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in using fiber optic tools and test equipment (e.g., OTDR, VFL, OLTS).
- Strong communication, instructional, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work with diverse student populations and adapt to various learning styles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior teaching or training experience in a technical or vocational setting.
- Experience with hybrid or online instructional delivery.
- Familiarity with Florida Department of Education curriculum frameworks and CAPE certifications.
