STUDENT EXCELLENCE AND ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Student Excellence and Engagement Specialist plays a key role in supporting both district and school teams. This position focuses on implementing restorative practices as well as behavioral, academic, social-emotional, and attendance supports within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework.

In this role, the specialist works closely with district leadership, principals, teachers, deans, and student support teams. Together, they develop proactive systems and targeted interventions designed to improve overall student outcomes.

Additionally, the position emphasizes strengthening school climate and ensuring equitable access and engagement for all students. Particular attention is given to students who are disengaged or considered at risk, with the goal of helping them reconnect and succeed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership and Program Support

  1. Collaborate with student excellence and engagement teams to align district initiatives, discipline policies, preventative practices, and student interventions.
  2. Lead implementation of restorative practices districtwide to foster positive school climates, healthy relationships, and effective conflict resolution.
  3. Support the development and implementation of district policies and practices that promote equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness.
  4. Coordinate communication and collaboration among district leadership, principals, teachers, deans, and other departments and programs.
  5. Demonstrate commitment to collaborative problem-solving and continuous improvement.

MTSS and Student Support

  1. Utilize knowledge of academic and behavioral MTSS frameworks to guide prevention-focused interventions and student supports.
  2. Assist schools in developing and implementing evidence-based behavioral, academic, attendance, and social-emotional interventions.
  3. Facilitate assessments and evaluations to determine the effectiveness of programs and services supporting student well-being.
  4. Apply expertise in behavioral, academic, social-emotional, and attendance interventions to address complex student situations.

Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement

  1. Analyze student data, including disciplinary and attendance information, to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
  2. Develop and support implementation of data-driven strategies that promote positive student behavior, engagement, and academic success.
  3. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and recommend program improvements based on outcomes.

Professional Learning and Capacity Building

  1. Provide professional development and coaching to staff regarding restorative practices, MTSS, social-emotional learning, and student engagement.
  2. Facilitate adult learning opportunities and support implementation of evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices.
  3. Performs other duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
    2. Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as
    required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
    3. Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at
    twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.
    4. Must be able to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or ESA Certificate required. 
    1. Candidates who do not currently hold a Washington State certificate may be considered if they are eligible to pursue a Washington State conditional certificate and possess appropriate and relevant education, training, and professional experience aligned with the responsibilities of the position. 
  2. Minimum of three (3) years of successful, student-centered classroom teaching or counseling experience.
  3. Experience creating and sustaining culturally responsive learning environments.
  4. Experience implementing restorative practices and/or social-emotional learning programs.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to equity and culturally responsive practices.
  6. Bilingual in English and Spanish

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Starting Date: 2026-2027 School Year (182 total contracted days)
Salary: $66,897 - $128,954 annual salary. Based on education and experience, Per OEA CBA - 2026-2027 Salary Schedule 
Retirement: Pension through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems
