Overview
McFarland Auto Group is looking for a driven and detail-oriented Inventory Manager to oversee and manage used vehicle inventory across our dealerships. This role plays a key part in maintaining inventory levels, controlling reconditioning costs, and sourcing quality vehicles to support sales performance.
You will work closely with Sales and Service leadership to ensure vehicles are acquired, inspected, and frontline-ready while protecting dealership profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management
- Maintain target used vehicle inventory levels
- Monitor inventory aging, pricing alignment, and readiness for sale
- Adjust inventory strategy based on market conditions and dealership needs
Vehicle Acquisition
- Source and acquire used vehicles through multiple channels
- Identify profitable inventory opportunities based on market data and demand
- Evaluate vehicles for purchase considering reconditioning costs and turn potential
- Ensure all acquisitions are properly documented and transitioned into inventory
Vehicle Evaluation & Inspections
- Inspect and drive all incoming inventory including trades, purchases, and dealer trades
- Anticipate reconditioning needs and associated costs
- Track and document vehicle condition and damage
Service & Reconditioning Oversight
- Review and approve service repair recommendations for inventory units
- Collaborate with Service and Sales Managers on major repairs
- Monitor reconditioning expenses to ensure profitability
Auction & Arbitration Management
- Handle auction arbitration processes when necessary
- Work with vendors to resolve issues or recover costs
- Make timely decisions to avoid excessive reconditioning expenses
Cross-Department Communication
- Maintain strong communication with Sales and Service teams
- Provide updates on inventory status, challenges, and opportunities
- Ensure smooth flow of vehicles from acquisition to front-line ready
Qualifications
- Automotive experience preferred (inventory, sales, or service)
- Strong understanding of used vehicle market and valuation
- Ability to make sound financial and operational decisions
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
