Head Girls Tennis Coach

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to build and sustain a competitive, character-driven high school tennis program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing a unified vision for tennis, focusing on player development, academic achievement, and community engagement while ensuring program-wide consistency and excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development and Leadership

  • Design and implement a high school tennis program

  • Establish and maintain a documented system of training, operations, and expectations

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of program policies, procedures, and long-term development goals

  • Ensure full compliance with NCHSAA regulations, school district policies, and local guidelines

  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the Athletic Policies adopted by the Board of Education and ensure staff-wide implementation

  • Follow the proper chain of command for administrative communication and address grievances through appropriate channels

  • Develop and implement a core philosophy, playing style, skills, and techniques

  • Maintain discipline, address concerns constructively, and promote a positive, team-centered culture

  • Collaborate with the athletic director on scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special events

  • Coordinate court usage and logistics with maintenance and school personnel to ensure preparedness for practices and games

  • Establish a plan for student-athlete exposure and recruitment to collegiate or post-secondary opportunities

 

Athletic Development

  • Develop and oversee year-round conditioning and training programs (fall/winter/spring)

  • Organize summer training camps, skill development clinics, and off-season programming

  • Encourage and support multi-sport participation among student-athletes

  • Actively support and collaborate with other athletic programs in the district

  • Integrate modern coaching techniques and prioritize player safety and health

Community Engagement and Program Management

  • Lead and participate in fundraising activities and program advancement efforts (e.g., Booster Club initiatives)

  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, and community stakeholders

  • Partner with local middle school coaches and administrators to develop a sustainable feeder system

  • Foster a sense of pride, ownership, and school spirit within the soccer program and community

Student-Athlete Development

  • Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting excellence in academics, athletics, and citizenship

  • Monitor academic performance and implement remediation strategies as needed

  • Set high, achievable academic and personal goals for all participants

  • Implement leadership and character education initiatives within the program

  • Build a supportive team culture emphasizing accountability, sportsmanship, and respect

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Valid North Carolina teaching license preferred (or willingness to obtain)

  • Demonstrated success in coaching tennis at the high school, club, or collegiate level (preferred)

  • Experience in program development and multi-level leadership

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership, planning, and organizational capabilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to inspire and develop student-athletes

  • Experience with recruiting and retaining student-athletes

  • Proficiency in current tennis strategies, skills, and player development methods

  • Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles applicable to tennis

  • Familiarity with NCHSAA rules, eligibility, and compliance standards

  • Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships

  • Dedication to continuous learning and program enhancement

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate and instruct tennis techniques and physical activities

  • Capacity to work outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Ability to lift and transport athletic equipment

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed

Additional Responsibilities

  • Manage soccer tennis budget, including purchasing and fundraising

  • Coordinate scheduling and field usage in collaboration with athletic administration

  • Supervise and evaluate assistant and JV coaches

  • Maintain inventory and ensure proper maintenance of all equipment

  • Attend and participate in required professional development and coaching workshops

  • Represent the tennis program in all district athletic department functions

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration

Summary

The successful candidate will be expected to lead a high-integrity program that emphasizes athletic excellence, academic achievement, and personal growth. This role requires passion, discipline, and a clear vision for building a championship-caliber soccer program while contributing to a positive school and community culture.
