At McDonald Bros Construction Inc, we conduct Excavation, Grading and Underground Utility Services on Commercial and Residential projects located in Arizona. Our company focuses on values, safety, teamwork, and scheduling. We focus on all aspects of excavation process from entitlements through municipalities, value engineering and construction completion. We specialize in Earthwork, Asphalt Paving, Underground Water, Sewer and Electric Utilities, Laser Leveling, All types of Septic Systems and Storm Drain Systems. All our projects are bonded and secured. We pride ourselves in Moving the Earth.


McDonald Bros is looking for enthusiastic Estimator, preferably with a Construction Degree or 2 years Construction Experience, including civil takeoff and bid experience, underground utilities, equipment & management experience. Training is available for the right candidate. Must be willing to learn and have a strong work ethic.  Requires excellent communication skills with a focus on Service and Quality.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Uses excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills with customers, venders, and employees alike.
  • Review and understand RFPs & plans and supporting project documents.
  • Bid set up and execution to cover all aspects of the work requested, including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Digital quantity take-off and machine control model building using Trimble Business Center.
  • Subcontract and contract writing for projects, assist with AIA billing, and ADOT reporting.
  • Initiating and maintaining permits necessary for project execution.
  • Solicitation and coordination of subcontractors.
  • Independent takeoff and bidding of earthwork, underground utilities and paving with bid amounts ranging between $5,000 and $15,000,000.00.
  • Assess projects after completion to evaluate bid and crew efficiency to bring projects in on budget.
  • Creating project schedules and progress schedules using Microsoft Office to ensure project completion within time constraints.
  • Manage project budgets, schedule forecasts with Superintendents on a regular basis.
  • Meets construction budget by monitoring project expenditures, identifying variances, implementing corrective actions, providing non-project annual/quarterly operating and capital budget information. This includes work in progress reports for bonding and accountants and alerts the owner of any budget or issues that need correction to the owner.
  • Order and manage material purchasing.
  • Price and manage change orders.
  • Create and track overall job schedule and templates, including billing schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Ability to establish good working relationships with a variety of people, including upper management, designers, sales, trades, vendors, team members & customers. Should be able to build rapport and maintain satisfaction during the project process.
  • Manage time effectively, multi-task & prioritize in order to meet established goals & deadlines.
  • Be decisive, flexible & work well under pressure when faced with unexpected situations or delays in a fast-paced environment.
  • Can analyze & resolve problems. Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and math skills.
  • Knowledge of Construction Practices and Terminology. Ability to read and understand blueprints and construction documents, specified project and local district details.
  • Attention to Detail and Persistence in follow up.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to travel to job required meetings.


Salary: This is a full-time salary position Monday through Friday. Starting salary is $65,000 and goes up based on experience – 401K, Health, Dental, Vison, Accident, and Life Insurance offered.
