Mechanical Estimator – Job Scope


Reports to: Director of Preconstruction


Are you a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in mechanical HVAC systems and a knack for numbers? We’re looking for a full-time Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team!


Job Summary:

The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and piping projects. This role involves analyzing bid documents, contract drawings, specifications, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and developing competitive bid proposals. The Estimator will ensure that all estimates align with the bid documents provided by the architect and the engineer of record.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine the scope of work.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost analysis for mechanical systems.
  • Research and obtain competitive pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Develop accurate cost estimates, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Collaborate with general contractors, engineers, and clients to clarify project requirements.
  • Identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities in project estimates.
  • Prepare and submit bid proposals in a timely manner.
  • Ensure estimates comply with the contract drawings and specifications provided by the design team.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, pricing, and construction techniques.
  • Use estimating software and Microsoft Office tools to compile and present cost data.


Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, vendors, and clients.
  • Professional appearance, good written and verbal communication skills, excellent computer skills required.


Job Requirements:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software (highly proficient with Excel)
  • 3 years of experience in mechanical estimating or a related field.
  • Knowledge of mechanical HVAC piping system and sheet metal duct systems.
  • Proficiency in software programs such as Trimble Auto Bid Mechanical, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings/documents


Preferred:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalence.
  • Field experience with mechanical piping, plumbing, or sheet metal installation.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and HVAC / Mechanical industry standards.
  • Experience with Trimble Autobid Mechanical and HVAC a huge plus.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
