JOB GOAL:  

 

To provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  To enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary to function successfully in society.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

This position is Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), plus a benefits package. NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

 

 TEACHER SALARY SCHEDULE

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must meet Arkansas certification requirements in elementary education. 
  2. Must possess GT license, Codes 305 and 306; Be working toward certification; Or, be eligible and willing to obtain GT Certification within a 3-year period (max) as required by an Additional Licensure Plan (ALP). 
  3. A minimum of two years teaching experience related to advanced learners (preferred). 
  4. Experience and expertise in applying current educational theory and practice; of cultural, socioeconomic, ethnic, and gender differences; and utilize the principles of child growth and development when working with students, parents, administrators, community members, and support staff. 
  5. Willingness to participate in on-going staff development. 
  6. Ability to teach to diverse student populations and possess sensitivity to cultural differences. 
  7. Commitment to participate in professional development and apply newly learned instructional strategies in the classroom. 
  8. Demonstrates the conviction that all children can and will learn in the New Little Rock School District. 
  9. Knowledge of ways to differentiate curriculum in content, product, process, and in the area of affective needs, as well. 
  10. Ability to articulate student progress clearly to parents and maintain appropriate records. 
  11. Evidence of the ability to design and implement hands-on activities, thematic units, problem-based learning, and real-world scenarios throughout all content areas. 
  12. Strong organizational, communication, technology, and interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

 

  1. Evidence of the ability and willingness to successfully integrate the PLTW curriculum where feasible for PLTW Launch.
  2. Embrace the K-8 school configuration and best practices with high expectations and promote student success while adopting a student-centered focus that allows students to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.
  3. Supports the vision and mission of JA Fair Preparatory School by working collaboratively with the administration and ALL staff to create a positive, safe and kid friendly learning environment.
  4. Demonstrates strong work ethics, a passion for creativity and always open minded to new and innovative ideas.
  5. Participate and successfully complete the required Project Lead the Way June 7-10 (PLTW) and The Leader in Me professional development beginning June 1-4 (LIM) and continuing throughout the school year, both on and off contract
  6. Implement program options and assessment procedures in accordance with Arkansas state and district GT goals and objectives.     
  7. Provide direct instruction to identified GT students appropriate to the student’s abilities. 
  8. Provide opportunities for students to participate in learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom. 
  9. Work with students to address affective needs and build character through education and one-on-one mentoring.  
  10. Consult with parents, teachers, and students to assess and evaluate students’ needs. 
  11. Assists in the preparation of required reports, including establishing and maintaining student profiles, progress reports, grades, annual reviews, ADE standards, etc. 
  12. Attends workshops and meetings to stay informed of current ideas, trends, and practices. 
  13. Be available to participate in after-school public events. 
  14. Work with families and staff to collect data as needed for the purpose of evaluating program effectiveness. 
  15. Writing and implementing curriculum; i.e. “Imaginoons,” Special Interest Clubs, thematic units, etc. 
  16. Works to establish and maintain partnerships with local community members and businesses. 
  17. Develop or select appropriate, rigorous curricula for students. 
  18.  Demonstrates knowledge of ways to effectively infuse technology into lessons. 
  19. Performs additional auxiliary duties as assigned i.e. duty, student monitoring, Club Sponsors, competition coach, team manager, etc.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
