JOB SUMMARY:
A Survey Rodman supports Surveyors and surveying crews. This role provides support during the measurement of land, transporting and setting up equipment necessary to survey land and prepare job sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
- Loading and securing equipment into vehicles before leaving for job site and upon return.
- Layout stakes to prepare for elevation measurements.
- Hold prism pole steady to help determine elevations and location of different points.
- Perform manual labor such as cutting brush for survey lines, driving stakes into ground with hammer, lifting manhole lids, carrying stakes, rebar, other heavy items and Prism Pole.
- Keep company tools and equipment clean, orderly and check adjustment of equipment.
- Ensure completion of required routine maintenance and cleanliness of work vehicle.
- Visit work/construction sites for land measurements.
- Provide accurate survey rod readings on the request and direction of surveyor party chief or surveyor.
- Inventory of materials and provide list to surveyor (monthly).
- Become knowledgeable of use of other equipment necessary for surveying under supervision of party chief.
- Requires compliance with McDavid Associates, Inc. General Safety Rules as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Perform other general duties as specified by party chief, surveyor and company leadership.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Maintain a valid NC driver’s license (use of company vehicle may be required).
- Requires a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills to convey accurate information effectively.
- Use basic mathematics and reading skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and manage time in the best interest of the client and company.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred One year of Experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Requires physical presence at job site as part of a two person crew. Requires working in various non-controlled environmental conditions and requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions including but not limited to very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures in addition to wind and rain.
- Exposure to noise, traffic, light, insects, wildlife, and reptiles.
- May encounter fire ants, snakes, bees or other stinging insects as well as poisonous plants.
- Must have ability to drive, stand, and kneel for long periods of time.
- Requires travel daily to job sites.
- Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to take accurate measurements or site setup.
- Exposure to high places, ditches, manholes, etc.
- Constantly repositions self to maintain use of survey equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on regular basis over rough/uneven terrain.
- Requires navigating on uneven ground, crossing ditches, traversing through fields, bodies of water, muddy and wooded areas while carrying equipment.
- Requires manual labor including but not limited to cutting brush for survey lines, driving stakes into ground with hammer, carrying stakes, rebar, other heavy items and Prism Pole.
- Requires communication and contact with others (individuals or teams, face-to-face, by telephone, or otherwise).
- Additional hours (nights and/or weekends) may be required based on project requirements.
- Minimal work in office setting.
