Position: Support Services Clerk / Delivery Person (Work Study)

Reports to: Manager of Printing and Mailing Services
Department: Post Office
Supervisor: Mr. William Ditto
Salary Grade: Maryland minimum wage
FSLA Status: Non-exempt
Location of Position: Decker College Center, McDaniel College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157
Duration of Appointment: 8/6/2025-5/20/2026
Schedule: Schedule is at discretion of supervisor
Evaluation Procedures: Student workers are evaluated on a continuing basis
Scope: Responsible for working in the Copy Center and Post Office to provide mail distribution and quality copying to the college community. Hours will vary based on scheduling and staffing needs during normal college business hours, Monday - Friday.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Oversee the delivery and receiving of USPS mail and packages, FedEx, UPS packages, all other carriers' packages, and Copy Center printing.
- Participate in maintaining an efficient Post Office and Copy Center by performing all duties pertaining to each department.
- Establish a reputation among campus customers for performing duties efficiently and courteously and for forming an excellent working relationship with the employees of the Post Office and Copy Center.
- Prioritize and maintain the quality and timeliness of the Post Office and Copy Center service.
- Maintain an inventory and distribution of office supplies, mailing supplies and stamps.
Specific Responsibilities:
Performs all duties pertaining to the Post Office
- Follow and interpret official US postal regulations and guidelines.
- Sort, distribute, forward, and deliver USPS and inter-campus departmental mail. Process and meter outgoing USPS mail.
- Provide courteous window service while selling USPS products/services, mailing supplies, money orders, and faxes. Send and receive faxes.
- Deliver mail, packages, and print jobs to the college community in a timely manner.
- Operate computerized mail-metering machine, fax machine, and USPS weight scale, and all other equipment necessary to perform duties.
- Maintain a balanced cash drawer.
- Log and distribute packages to the college community.
- Process incoming business reply mail.
- Handle and process bulk mailings. Complete necessary bulk mailing forms.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Performs all duties pertaining to the Copy Center
- Operate copiers, folder, laminator, paper cutter, poster printer, binder, and all other machinery pertaining to the Copy Center.
- Develop the knowledge and skills to effectively operate and maintain the Copy Center equipment with on-the-job training.
- Complete all printing requests on time by prioritizing the due dates and time.
- Disburse office supply requests and assist with maintaining the inventory and ordering of stock.
- Maintain courteous customer service skills and communication with supervisor and co-workers.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate student at McDaniel College
- Eligible for work study as part of Financial Aid package
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- The ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- The ability to perform multiple duties and respond to short notices.
- Must be computer proficient.
Physical Characteristics:
This position requires standing for long periods of time as well as bending and stooping. This position does require the ability to lift up to 60 pounds. This position requires the ability to deliver mail throughout campus on foot during all types of weather and adverse conditions.
