THE JOB

Summary:

Welds and assembles metal components to effect repairs to dump trucks, trailers, and

other similar equipment. Also welds and assembles mobile containers (boxes).

Duties and responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• Obtain parts and materials.
• Use disc grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.*
• Operate manual and automated welding units and equipment by depositing metal from electrode to work piece and joins edges of work piece.*
• Maintain length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.*
• Weld in flat and vertical planes (all position welding).*
• Examine weld for bead size and other specifications.*
• Grind or clean weld joint of work piece.
• Repair improperly welded pieces and fill holes.
• Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture.*
• Tack assemblies together.
• Fabricate new or replacement parts for dump trucks, trailers, and mobile containers (boxes).*
• Assemble component parts using hand and small power tools.
• May change hoses, fittings, air valves, suspension parts, etc.
• Responsible for meeting and continue to meet all DOT mandated physical, and drug and alcohol testing requirements. *
• Reports for all schedule work shifts before scheduled starting time, and works until scheduled stopping time, as required.*
• Accurate completion of paperwork daily. *
• Climbs ladders into and out of trucks, tanks, and various other containers. *
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.*
• Performs emergency response activities as needed. *
• Ensures proper use of equipment and immediately notifies supervisor of any issues with equipment. *
• Maintains MEI’s core values. *
• Attend MEI’s Saturday safety meetings once every other month.
• Quick and immediate response when on call every 5th
• Wear and properly use a variety of levels A-D of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, skin, face, hand and foot protection as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

*Essential Functions

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

• Understand and apply welding techniques.
• Work quickly and skillfully with the hands.
• Accept responsibility for the work performed.
• Ability to visualize what the finished product should look like.
• Ability to operate welding equipment with skill.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Able to complete an extensive training program in proper waste handling and sampling procedures, environmental laws and regulations, safety training, certification and testing, and tank cleaning; 40 Hour OSHA Training and Confined Space Entry.
• Planning and organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work with little or no direct supervision and an aptitude to complete assigned work.

Required Education, Training and Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalency.
• Valid Driver’s License; Class A or B CDL preferred.
• Wrenching; Steel/Aluminum; Mechanical w/hydraulics; fabrication with welding and layout experience needed.
• Experience with wire-feed welding

Physical Requirements:

• Position involves occasional heights and confined spaces; regular strenuous physical exertion.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs.
• Requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, sitting, talking, and listening.
• Requires frequent balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing/pulling, grasping, and carrying.
• Required to have clarity of vision.
• Occasional ability to properly wear and use respirator equipment and other forms of protective equipment (PPE), including occasional full encapsulation PPE suits which can elevate body temperature substantially during strenuous exertion.
