What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Administrator position at McCracken County Fiscal Court?
McCracken County Fiscal Court is looking for an experienced Tax Administrator to collect local tax and enforce the McCracken County Occupational & Net Profit Fee Ordinance as directed by the Fiscal Court. The Tax Administrator reports to the Treasurer of the Finance Department.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with McCracken County Tax ordinances.
- Process and audit the accuracy of registered businesses' quarterly and annual tax and payroll forms.
- Review taxpayers' financial statements, tax return schedules, and other pertinent financial records.
- Perform audits to identify unregistered businesses and/or changes to existing businesses, as well as other compliance issues.
- Analyze, review, and initiate appropriate actions to reconcile and resolve complex tax cases.
- Answers phone calls and inquiries regarding tax and related processes.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of business and occupational license tax and other local business taxes.
- Proficient in business and payroll tax forms.
- Proficient in the principles and practices of accounting and auditing.
- Ability to examine and analyze tax assets and liabilities.
- Ability to comprehend and gain a working knowledge of State laws, County, and office policies, procedures, and operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the general public, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proven analytical skills in problem resolution with demonstrated attention to detail.
- Must be open and flexible to change and new information, to include new technology.
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, printers, calculators, and other standard office equipment and software.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education and Experience:
- Four (4) year degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in finance, accounting, tax, or a related field.
- Experience in CPA office.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Must pass conditional post offer background check and drug screen.
- Possession of valid Kentucky Driver’s License.
Salary: $83,000-$88,000, DOQ
