Overview
We are seeking experienced and highly qualified Literacy Teachers to support an elementary literacy program serving students in grades 1–5. This program is designed to strengthen students' reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension skills through engaging, evidence-based instruction.
The ideal candidate is an experienced educator with a proven track record of student achievement, strong classroom management skills, and a passion for literacy development.
Program Schedule
- Program runs for three (3) consecutive weeks during July 2026
- Staff will work Monday through Thursday
- Daytime schedules will generally fall between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, depending on site assignment
- Attendance for the entire three-week program is required
- Due to the accelerated nature of the program, candidates must commit to working all scheduled days
Work Locations
Instructional staff will be assigned to one of the following sites:
- J.P. Ryon Elementary School
- Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School
Required Qualifications
- Active teaching certification/licensure (Required)
- Minimum of two (2) years of classroom teaching experience preferred
- Experience teaching elementary students in grades K–5 preferred
- Demonstrated experience teaching reading, literacy, language arts, or related subjects
- Strong knowledge of literacy instruction, reading interventions, phonics, vocabulary development, and writing instruction
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with school administrators, site coordinators, and instructional staff
Preferred Qualifications
- Reading Endorsement or Literacy Certification
- Experience teaching summer school, intervention, or extended learning programs
- Experience supporting diverse learners and students performing below grade level
- Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices and small-group instruction
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, high-quality literacy instruction aligned with program goals
- Facilitate whole-group and small-group learning activities
- Implement instructional strategies that improve reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills
- Monitor student progress and provide ongoing feedback
- Maintain accurate attendance and program documentation
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment
- Collaborate with program leadership and fellow educators to support student success
- Participate in required training sessions and staff meetings
Attendance Requirement
This is a short-term, intensive academic program. Selected teachers must be available for the full three-week assignment. Consistent attendance is essential to ensure continuity of instruction and student success. Candidates with known scheduling conflicts during the program period should not apply.
Compliance Requirements
Selected candidates must successfully complete all required district and state employment requirements before the start of the program, including:
- Fingerprinting
- Criminal background screening
- Employment verification
- Child safety compliance documentation
- Mandatory paid training
