Overview
Reports to VP of Regional Operations
Responsible for planning, leading, organizing, and controlling activities related to and necessary for a successful and profitable branch consistent with corporate direction, policies, procedures and objectives.
Responsible for employee churn rate, lease operator/driver recruitment, revenue growth, branch profitability, quality scores, budget compliance, loss prevention, and customer retention/churn.
The General Manager is expected to make decisions consistent with the organization’s values and goals. Execution of position responsibilities must be consistent with corporate policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook. The General Manager supports the Corporate Vision and Values Statement in daily management activities.
Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Collaborate directly with operations, fleet administration, driver recruitment, training, warehousing, planning, and dispatch to ensure seamless execution of logistics and transportation services.
- Warehouse & Facilities Management: Oversee all aspects of warehouse operations and facility maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Training & Development: Implement structured, measurable, and well-documented training programs to enhance workforce capability and operational efficiency.
- Branch Administration: Provide management oversight for credit and collections, billing, general accounting, accounts payable, and customer service, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial policies.
- Revenue Growth & Financial Management: Drive consistent revenue growth through effective resource planning, revenue forecasting, budget planning, and expense control.
- Quality & Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to quality standards, measured through United’s and UniGroup’s quality scores, customer satisfaction reports, and internal surveys.
- Human Resources Management: Lead HR functions, including wage evaluations, performance reviews, background checks, recruitment, policy compliance, disciplinary actions, terminations, and team-building initiatives.
- Performance Evaluation: Establish and track performance standards, define criteria to measure progress, and conduct annual performance reviews to assess achievements and identify areas for improvement.
- Organizational Structure: Develop and maintain an efficient and effective organizational structure, ensuring the appropriate allocation of roles and responsibilities.
- Customer & Market Awareness: Maintain a strong understanding of customer needs and business operations, ensuring services align with client expectations and industry best practices.
- Company Knowledge: Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of McCollister’s and UniGroup’s services and functions, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
- Operational Expertise: Exhibit strong operational proficiency, with the ability to plan and execute a broad range of moving and logistics services or customize solutions to meet unique client needs.
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years in warehouse management required.
- Required warehouse experience including receiving, inspection, shipping, wireless inventory control, and data entry.
- Position requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with automated WMS systems.
- A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in the moving industry, with a preference for candidates with commercial moving expertise.
- Industry awareness – informed and knowledgeable of the moving industry and its competitive landscape.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google G Suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
