Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager
Position Summary
The HSE Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all health, safety, and environmental programs across multiple operations. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, promotes a strong safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental performance.
Primary Focus Areas
- Lead all safety and regulatory activities for core plant and operational environments
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local HSE regulations (OSHA, MSHA, DOT, etc.)
- Conduct routine safety and environmental inspections and manage corrective actions
- Deliver safety and environmental training across all locations
- Perform incident investigations and implement corrective/preventative measures
- Manage Workers’ Compensation claims from initiation through resolution
- Oversee and maintain light-duty return-to-work programs
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety plans and procedures
- Support implementation and training of Quality Control programs
- Procure personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure proper usage compliance
- Establish and lead Safety Committees across locations
- Maintain OSHA logs and required compliance documentation
- Monitor regulatory updates and ensure ongoing compliance
Secondary Focus Areas
- Conduct safety inspections for additional operations and ensure timely follow-up on corrective actions
- Coordinate and manage annual regulatory training programs (e.g., MSHA hazard training, First Aid/CPR/AED, hearing conservation)
- Assist during regulatory inspections and audits
- Complete and submit required regulatory reports
- Manage Workers’ Compensation and motor vehicle accident claims
- Ensure contractor compliance and coordinate with operations teams
- Conduct onboarding and specialized safety training for employees and contractors
- Maintain in-house trainer certifications and attend ongoing professional development
- Process contractor approvals and maintain compliance records
Company-Wide Responsibilities
- Maintain contractor compliance platforms (e.g., ISNetworld, Browz, Avetta)
- Instruct safety sessions during annual training programs
- Conduct drug and alcohol testing programs
- Procure PPE for all operational locations
- Manage hazardous chemical inventory and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database
- Develop and oversee recycling and environmental sustainability programs
- Oversee facility safety systems, including security cameras
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Safety and Environmental Management or related field
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations
- Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities simultaneously
- Strong leadership, training, and communication skills
- Experience with Workers’ Compensation and claims management
