As an ELL Educator, you are the bridge between a student’s heritage and their future. You don't just teach a language; you unlock the world. By treating multilingualism as an academic superpower, you will lead a classroom that celebrates diverse identities while providing the high-leverage linguistic tools students need to master a rigorous curriculum.

You are a champion for equity, a partner to families, and a specialist who ensures that every student—regardless of their home language—has a front-row seat to success in the Ferguson-Florissant "New Chapter."

Role Summary

As a High School ELL Teacher, you will lead the language development program for our 9th-12th grade multilingual scholars. You will facilitate a sophisticated, student-centered environment that balances intensive English acquisition with the academic demands of high school graduation requirements. Working as a vital advocate within the building, you will collaborate with content-area teachers to scaffold complex subjects, ensuring that language is never a barrier to a student’s brilliance.

Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) (K-12).
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree, required; Master’s degree, preferred.
  • Secondary Specialist: You understand the unique academic and social-emotional needs of immigrant and refugee teenagers.
  • Equity Champion: You are a fierce advocate for your students, ensuring they have full access to STEAM pathways, AP courses, and career-technical education.
  • Collaborative Coach: You thrive on partnering with Science, Math, and Social Studies departments to co-plan and modify instruction for diverse learners.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Accelerate Acquisition: Lead targeted instruction that develops high-level academic English in reading, writing, and professional communication.
  • Secure the Diploma: Monitor graduation credits and pathway progress, ensuring ELL students are meeting the milestones for post-secondary success.
  • Bridge the Content: Provide "push-in" or collaborative support in core content classrooms to make high-level academic concepts accessible.
  • Empower Families: Build strong, trusting relationships with our international families, helping them navigate the complexities of the American high school system.
  • Celebrate Diversity: Lead building-wide initiatives that honor the linguistic and cultural wealth our students bring to the FFSD community.
