What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional Floater - STRIVE position at MCCLERNAND ELEM SCHOOL?
HOURS PER DAY: 7 (Includes 30 min unpaid lunch)
DAYS PER YEAR: 191 (Which Includes 1 Day of CPI Training)
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Any person who is 20 years of age or over, well-mannered, well groomed, punctual, dependable, enjoys being with children and who meets the basic requirements listed below.
- Must have an Educator Licensure with Stipulation or valid Illinois Teaching Licensure or 90-day sub licensure (To obtain an Educator Licensure with Stipulations from the Regional Superintendent’s Office, you must provide proof of 60 college hours from an accredited college or pass either the ETS ParaPro Assessment test or ACT Work Keys Assessment test at Lincoln Land Community College. Both tests can be scheduled at Lincoln Land by appt.)
- Must have high school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform all job-related functions
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or written directions
- Ability to communicate and maintain good working relationships with other employees and general staff of the assigned school
- Physical and TB test
- Must take CPI course and refresher courses
Physical demands: Must pass pre-placement agility/fit for duty exam with MOHA
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the teacher in implementing individualized instructional and behavioral programs for students
- Support students in academic, functional, and social skill activities under the direction of the teacher and related service providers
- Prepare, organize, and adapt instructional materials and visual supports as directed
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and use positive behavior supports and de-escalation strategies
- Monitor student behavior, reinforce appropriate social interactions, and assist in developing communication and self-regulation skills
- Maintain documentation of behavioral data and student progress as requested
- Assist students with activities of daily living, including feeding, toileting, dressing, and hygiene as needed
- Support lifting, positioning, and mobility for non-ambulatory students in accordance with proper safety procedures
- Ensure a safe, clean, and supportive environment for all students
- Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and on or off the bus maintaining safety and order
- Support students in community of school-based activities to promote independence and inclusion
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other staff to implement IEP goals and classroom routines
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Participate in required trainings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities
- Operate classroom equipment (e.g., copier, laminator, adaptive devices) under teacher supervision
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to support student learning and well-being
