Equine Vet Tech — No Vet Experience Needed, Horse Experience Required

McCleery Equine Veterinary Service
Archer, FL Part Time
POSTED ON 7/6/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/1/2026

Do you know horses? We'll teach you the rest.

McCleery Equine Veterinary Services is a mobile, ambulatory equine practice serving the Alachua County area. We're hiring a part-time veterinary technician to drive, assist our doctors in the field, and help keep our trucks running smoothly.

Here's what makes this role different: we do not require veterinary experience. We require horse experience. If you've worked in barns, trained, shown, or handled horses day in and day out, you already have the part we can't teach. The veterinary skills — restraint for procedures, assisting with exams, sample handling, truck and inventory support — we teach you during a full paid month of training alongside an experienced technician.

The schedule

  • Two field days per week alongside one of our doctors
  • A half-day admin/support day
  • Roughly 24–26 hours per week — a real part-time role, not full-time hours squeezed into fewer days

What you'll do

  • Assist our doctors during ambulatory visits — handling, restraint, and procedure support
  • Help manage truck supplies, equipment, and medication stock
  • Support the flow of a busy field day so the doctor can focus on the patient
  • Communicate professionally and kindly with our horse-owner clients

What we're looking for

  • Hands-on horse experience — barn work, training, husbandry, showing, or similar
  • Strong attention to detail — in field medicine, small things matter, and we count on every team member to get them right
  • Comfortable and safe around horses in all temperaments and situations
  • Reliable, calm under pressure, and a genuine team player
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record (required — you'll be driving our practice vehicles)
  • A real interest in learning the veterinary side of equine care

What you'll get

  • A paid month of training before you ever work a field day on your own
  • The chance to learn equine veterinary medicine from working doctors, in the field
  • A small, close-knit two-doctor practice where your work actually matters

How to apply Send a résumé or a short note about your horse experience to careers@mccleeryequinevet.com, or apply through our form at mccleeryequinevet.com/apply.html. Tell us about your background with horses — that's what we most want to hear about.
