General Purpose:
Leads and manages the estimating team to prepare and win accurate, comprehensive, and timely multi-discipline cost estimates for proposals and projects in the heavy industrial market across the United States. Oversee the evaluation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs), develops strategic estimating approaches, and ensures the successful execution of estimating processes from concept through project award and to project kick-off. Provides leadership in continuous improvement of estimating methodologies and processes for the department and the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Highly qualified, experienced, and competent in leading multi-discipline heavy industrial engineering and construction projects:
Leadership & Strategy:
- Review opportunities with Executive team, Operations, and Director of Pre-Construction Services. Assist Business Development in finding opportunities.
- Lead and mentor a team of estimators, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Develop and implement estimating strategies aligned with company objectives and project requirements.
- Oversees the entire estimating process for assigned projects, ensuring adherence to schedule, safety, and quality standards
- Provides strategic guidance and technical expertise to the estimating team on complex multi-discipline projects.
- Work with Director of Pre-Construction on continuous improvement initiatives for estimating tools and processes.
Estimate Development & Analysis:
- Directs the understanding and processing of complex RFP information and leads the estimating team(s) for scope-specific responsibilities.
- Ensures detailed on-screen material take-offs (MTO) are performed accurately using estimating software and validates conventional MTO methods when applicable.
- Review and approve complete labor, material, equipment, and indirect cost estimates to ensure accuracy and consistency with established databases and the RFP requirements.
- Oversees the detailed site logistical requirements and site execution for development of the project estimate for all construction disciplines.
- Validates equipment and vendor information for installation and incorporates into project estimates.
- Guides the development of conceptual estimates for non-standard items or work functions.
- Ensure MTOs are structured conducive to customer bid form requirements and that bid forms are completed accurately.
- Manages the preparation of material lists for the Purchasing Department in various formats.
- Oversees the selection of support equipment, estimation of associated costs, and incorporation into project estimates.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Interfaces with Engineering, Construction, Safety, QA/QC, and Project Controls departments to integrate all identified costs and staffing requirements into estimates.
- Maintains strong relationships with customers, vendors, and subcontractors, as required, regarding assigned estimates.
- Directs the development of subcontractor scopes of work, solicitation of bids, and comprehensive subcontractor analysis.
- Makes final subcontractor selection recommendations based on all relevant factors during estimate review meetings and communicates these to project teams upon project award.
- Collaborates with the Project Controls Department on scheduling and sequence planning for estimates.
- Prepares and reviews written Clarifications & Exclusions for inclusion in proposals.
- Attends customer field locations and office/on-site meetings (e.g., pre-bid meetings, proposal review meetings, project KOMs) as a senior representative.
Project Transition & Risk Management:
- Facilitates Project Kick-offs and seamless As-Sold transfers to the Project Team.
- Exercises significant independent discretion in developing final project estimates and in the application of "mark-up" and "mark-down" factors for executive review and approval.
- Identifies, assesses, and mitigates contingency and risk items throughout the estimating process for final estimate review.
General Duties:

Qualifications:
- Extensive field and/or project experience in heavy industrial engineering and construction.
- Higher education in Engineering or Construction fields considered a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive estimating experience.
- Leadership experience considered a plus.
- Proven experience in multi-discipline industrial construction estimating.
- High degree of understanding of engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation) and the models, drawings and specifications utilized in industrial construction estimates.
- Experience with fabrication processes and techniques considered a plus.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of estimating manuals and advanced methods to produce complete construction estimates.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills across all levels of the company.
- Ability to build and promote strong customer relationships (both internal and external).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex technical, commercial, and legal documents.
- Ability to effectively present information to clients, project teams, and executive management.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Navisworks, and estimating software (e.g., AccuBid considered a plus).
- Intermediate to advanced skills in CAD Models, Adobe, Bluebeam, and Trimble Vista.

Work Environment: Will regularly be in an office environment with ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment. Will occasionally be in a industrial facility, construction site or fabrication facility with a moderate noise level.
