About McCabe, Trotter & Beverly
McCabe, Trotter & Beverly is a South Carolina law firm focused on representing homeowners’ associations, condominium associations, and the professionals who manage them.
Our attorneys work collaboratively with clients and each other to provide practical legal advice and effective solutions. Because community association law spans multiple areas of practice, our attorneys have the opportunity to develop broad legal experience while building lasting client relationships.
What You Will Do
Legal drafting and analysis will be the primary focus of this position. Approximately 80 to 90% of the attorney’s time will be spent researching legal issues and preparing, reviewing, and revising substantive legal documents.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Drafting and revising contracts, agreements, amendments, resolutions, policies, and other transactional documents.
- Drafting and amending declarations, bylaws, covenants, rules, and other governing documents for homeowners’ and condominium associations.
- Preparing legal opinions, memoranda, demand letters, and other substantive client communications.
- Drafting litigation-related memoranda or appellate briefs, when appropriate.
- Drafting and reviewing deeds, easements, and other real estate instruments.
- Conducting legal research and applying applicable statutes, regulations, case law, and governing documents to specific client matters.
- Reviewing existing contracts, governing documents, and other legal instruments; identifying legal issues, deficiencies, and opportunities for revision; advising clients regarding same.
- Working with other attorneys on complex or novel legal issues and developing appropriate legal documents or solutions.
- Multi-jurisdictional research on novel legal issues affecting community associations.
- Participating in client and board meetings and conference calls..
- Collaborating with attorneys and paralegals to develop and execute effective strategies for client matters.
- Maintaining accurate time and billing records.
This is a substantive attorney position, not a document-review or document-production role. The attorney will be expected to understand the legal and practical issues presented, exercise independent legal judgment, conduct appropriate research, and produce work that addresses the client's specific circumstances.
While legal drafting will constitute the majority of the practice, the position will also provide opportunities to develop transactional experience, advise clients directly, and expand knowledge of community association law.
