Position Summary
McBride Custom Homes is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Carpenter to join our team in Petoskey, Michigan. The Lead Carpenter is responsible for overseeing daily field operations on custom residential construction projects, ensuring the highest standards of craftsmanship, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. This role requires a strong background in residential construction, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate subcontractors while maintaining project schedules and budgets.

Key Responsibilities
Carpentry & Construction
- Perform and oversee framing, siding, trim, cabinetry installation, finish carpentry, and other construction-related tasks.
- Review blueprints, construction documents, and specifications to ensure accurate execution of work.
- Ensure all construction activities meet local building codes and company quality standards.
- Conduct punch-list completion and final quality inspections.
Job Site Management
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards.
- Coordinate material deliveries and inventory management.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure projects are completed efficiently and professionally.
Client & Team Communication
- Serve as a point of contact for homeowners, vendors, and subcontractors as needed.
- Communicate project updates, schedule changes, and potential issues to management.
- Mentor and train carpenters and apprentices to support team development and growth.
- Foster a positive, professional culture that reflects McBride Custom Homes’ commitment to excellence.
Qualifications
Required
· Previous carpentry experience
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of residential building practices, materials, and methods.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate common construction tools and equipment safely.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience in custom home construction.
- Knowledge of Michigan residential building codes.
- OSHA safety certification.
- Experience using construction management software and mobile field applications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physically demanding construction tasks throughout the workday.
- Ability to travel between local job sites within the Charlevoix/Cheboygan/Emmet County area.
