What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Child Nutrition Workers position at McAllen Independent School District?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Child Nutrition Program (CNP) Child Nutrition Worker is responsible for preparing, serving, storing and delivering cafeteria meals for all meal services the district participates in through the Texas Department of Agriculture.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED, preferred
Food Handler's Certification approved by the State of Texas, required
Valid Texas driver's Class C license, required
Clear driving record, required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation, required
Ability to perform basic math, required
Knowledge of safety and sanitation guidelines with food preparation, preferred
Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions
Ability to lift, bend, pull, push, and twist, required
Knowledge of general shipping and receiving procedures
Knowledge of accounting for inventory
Knowledge of material handling equipment such as 2-wheel hand trucks, hydraulic hand pallet trucks, etc. if PT worker in warehouse
Experience:
Experience in institutional food service operations, preferred
Warehouse shipping/receiving/delivery position, preferred
Workdays: 242 - 20 hours per week
Pay Date: Biweekly
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- P repare , serve and handle food in accordance with USDA guidelines and district policy.
- Receive, inspect and store food supplies according to safety standards.
- Follow all food safety protocols including proper handwashing, temperature controls, and storing to prevent cross-contamination.
- Demonstrate ability to work with coworkers cooperatively and always provide excellent customer service to students, parents, staff, and administration .
- Maintain accurate records as required by local, state and federal regulations on food safety and inventory storage.
- Adhere to proper dress code according to the department’s policy.
- Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator) in accordance with funding source guidelines.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Use large and small kitchen equipment, including sharp cutting tools; use food grade cleaning solutions.
Computer, barcode scanner, calculator, copier and other office machines, 2-wheel hand trucks, hydraulic hand pallet trucks, stocks carts, delivery step vans, 2 1/2- ton truck with Tommy lift, and all mailroom equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively ( verbal or written) ; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to handle several projects at the same time with frequent interruptions; meeting delivery schedules in a timely manner , ability to plan and organize work within time constraints .

Occasional lifting or moving items weighing up to 100 pounds
Exposure to temperature extremes (hot from cooking stoves and cold from walk-in coolers and freezers)
