What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher position at McAdams Academy Wichita?
JOB SUMMARY: The Teacher is defined as one whose primary concern is to maintain a positive learning environment and the improvement of learning opportunities for students. The Teacher will also guide volunteers in instructional methods.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitate student curriculum needs
2. Tutor to engage students in ongoing learning
3. Demonstrate de-escalation behaviors
4. Address challenging behaviors as they arise to maintain a positive learning environment
5. Manage multiple student needs
6. Assist with setting academic goals for students, including monitoring and provision of educational needs
7. Contact parents and assure all communications regarding students are documented and provided to the case management team for central file (phone calls, emails, texts, etc.)
8. Be available to step in as needed (i.e. tutoring, helping with behavioral issues)
9. Work with volunteers and assist with any problems or questions
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
1. Prefered valid teaching license
2. Ability to lift at least 20lbs
3. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time
4. Knowledge and ability to assist with High School Math
5. A basic understanding of youths with emotional and behavioral disorders, including trauma-informed care and the impact of various forms of chemical dependency
6. Concept of restorative practices used in classroom settings
7. Proficient computer skills
8. Ability to evaluate the academic needs of middle and high school youth
9. Have a general understanding of racial and ethnic diversity in a school setting
10. Understand the criminogenic needs as they relate to juvenile offenders and their families
11. Possess a valid KS Driver’s License
CONDUCT: The Teacher must, at all times, model pro-social behavior and be able to teach, correct, and instruct students and volunteers to do the same.
