Position Summary
MCA Senior Adult Day Center is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dependable Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Activity Coordinator to support seniors and adults with cognitive and physical challenges in a community-based setting.
This dual-role position combines direct participant care with activity planning and engagement. The ideal candidate enjoys building relationships with seniors, assisting with personal care needs, and creating meaningful experiences that promote socialization, wellness, dignity, and purpose.
The CNA / Activity Coordinator plays a vital role in helping participants remain active, connected, and engaged while supporting their health, safety, and overall well-being.
Essential ResponsibilitiesParticipant Care
- Assist participants with activities of daily living (ADLs), including:
- Toileting assistance
- Grooming
- Mobility support
- Transfers and ambulation assistance
- Observe participants for changes in condition and report concerns to nursing staff.
- Assist with meal service and hydration monitoring.
- Obtain and document vital signs as directed.
- Support bowel and bladder tracking and documentation.
- Maintain participant confidentiality and dignity.
- Assist with medication reminders under nurse supervision.
Activity Programming & Engagement
- Assist in planning and implementing daily activities.
- Lead small-group and large-group activities.
- Facilitate games, arts and crafts, fitness activities, music programs, and special events.
- Encourage participation and social engagement.
- Adapt activities for individuals with dementia and cognitive impairments.
- Assist with holiday celebrations, community outings, and intergenerational programs.
- Create a welcoming and positive environment for participants and families.
Documentation
- Complete daily participant documentation.
- Record observations and participation notes.
- Assist with activity attendance tracking.
- Support care plan implementation and participant goal monitoring.
Team Responsibilities
- Collaborate with nursing and program staff.
- Assist with room setup and cleanup.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Participate in staff meetings and training programs.
QualificationsRequired
- Current Illinois CNA certification.
- CPR/BLS certification.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to pass background checks required by Illinois regulations.
- Reliable transportation and attendance.
Preferred
- Experience working with seniors.
- Experience with dementia or Alzheimer's care.
- Experience leading activities, recreation programs, or group engagement.
- Knowledge of person-centered care practices.
