What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Assistant I NXR - Horb Lab position at MBL New Logo?
Position Summary:
The MBL seeks a highly motivated individual to join the National Xenopus Resource (NXR) at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) as a research assistant and animal care technician. The successful candidate will contribute to projects within the NXR and will be involved with the generation and husbandry of Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis frogs.
Additional Information: Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Husbandry for Xenopus laevis and Xenopus tropicalis frogs, maintenance of modular life support systems for holding frogs, breeding of frogs, microscopy, data entry, general lab organization and maintenance. Daily observation of animals in the facility is an essential duty. Other responsibilities include other lab work, cryopreservation and working with visiting scientists.
Basic Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in science, or equivalent experience, is required. This position requires an independent, organized, and self-motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills are essential.
Working weekends, occasional holidays, and on-call emergency response on a rotating basis with other staff is a requirement of this five-day-a week position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Animal handling is an asset.
Physical Requirements:
This job requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs., bend and work on tight spaces, work from 4ft ladders, and work with standard hand and mechanical tools and chemicals, some of which are harsh (eg. Bleach).
