What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Adjuster 1099 position at MBC Public Adjusters?
Company Overview
At MBC Public Adjusters, we are licensed across 18 states and dedicated to advocating for commercial property owners through expert public adjusting services. Our team is built on professionalism, precision, and a relentless commitment to maximizing settlements for our clients. We work commercial — hotels, apartment complexes, retail, and more
Position Overview
MBC is looking for an experienced Independent Public Adjuster to join our network on a contract basis. This is a commission-based, 1099 engagement open to part-time contractors. Whether you are looking to supplement your existing income or stay active in the field.
Workload is directly tied to claims received—during active periods, assignments can be substantial; during slower periods, work may be limited.
Candidates with carrier-side experience are strongly encouraged to apply. You already know how the other side thinks — put that to work for the policyholder.
Travel is required. You will be assigned claims across our licensed states and are expected to manage inspections, documentation, and estimates independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site property damage inspections, including roof access and ladder use
- Scope losses thoroughly and document all damages with photos and field notes
- Prepare detailed, line-item estimates using Xactimate
- Submit complete claim packages and supporting documentation to carriers
- Attend joint inspections and negotiate directly with carrier adjusters
- Maintain clear, professional communication with clients and MBC leadership throughout the life of the claim
- Meet documentation and submission deadlines assigned by MBC
- Keep accurate records of all claim activity
Preferred Background
- Prior experience on the carrier side (staff adjuster, independent adjuster, or CAT adjuster) strongly preferred
- Active Public Adjuster license in one or more of our licensed states
- Texas Public Adjuster License a plus
- Proficiency in Xactimate required
- Commercial property claims experience preferred
- Comfortable with travel — multi-day trips may be required depending on claim volume
Compensation
This is a commission-only engagement. Compensation is percentage-based on collected claim proceeds.
- Commission structure discussed during the interview process
- High-volume or complex commercial claims offer significant earning potential
- No cap on earnings — your income reflects your output
- Well-suited as supplemental income for adjusters currently working in related fields
As a 1099 contractor, you are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, tools, and expenses. MBC does not provide benefits under this arrangement.
Contractor Requirements
- Must carry your own tools (ladder, phone, laptop, measuring device, etc.)
- Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel on short notice
- Must maintain an active PA license in good standing
- Must be able to execute a contractor agreement with MBC prior to assignment
A Note on Workload
Assignment volume varies based on claims received by MBC. Contractors should not expect a guaranteed minimum number of assignments per week or month. This arrangement works best for self-motivated professionals who can remain responsive and ready to deploy when claims come in.
Application Process
Submit a resume and a brief summary of your adjusting background, including any carrier-side experience, license states, and Xactimate proficiency level. We review applications on a rolling basis and move quickly with qualified candidates.
