Clinical Supervisor – Substance Use Disorder (SUD)Position Overview
The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, leadership, and quality assurance of all clinical services provided at MHI. This includes training, mentoring, and oversight of a team of clinicians delivering direct services to clients with substance use and co-occurring behavioral health conditions.
Reporting directly to the Clinical Director/Executive Director, the Clinical Supervisor ensures program integrity, compliance, and clinical excellence. This position is primarily remote with required attendance at scheduled meetings and trainings.
The Clinical Supervisor may be required to carry a limited caseload as determined by the strategic and programmatic needs of Mazwi Holistic Institute.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision of certified addiction counselors (CAC-AD, CSC-AD, trainees).
- Facilitate the day-to-day operations of the SUD treatment programs.
- Conduct or review client assessments, ensuring accurate use of ASAM criteria.
- Conduct intakes, assessments, and biopsychosocial evaluations using ASAM criteria.
- Supervise clinicians and/or student interns.
- Conduct bi-weekly reviews of progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries, and incident reports.
- Review and sign assessments completed by supervised staff.
- Conduct new therapist orientations and onboarding.
- Perform quarterly quality chart reviews for compliance with COMAR and program standards.
- Identify and document team training needs; coordinate trainings and continuing education.
- Conduct weekly documented supervision sessions for all supervised staff.
- Ensure compliance with program policies, ethical guidelines, and CARF standards.
- Participate in program planning and evaluation, helping expand the range and quality of services.
- Represent MHI at professional and community meetings.
- Prepare monthly reports to referral and oversight agencies (Drug Court, DSS, Probation, Parole).
- Conduct weekly staff meetings with counselors.
- Maintain documentation of all supervision and management activities per agency and licensing requirements.
- Attend bi-weekly leadership meetings and participate in monthly all-staff meetings with updates and documentation.
Ideal Candidate
- Maryland CAC-AD. Preferred LCADC, or LCPC.
- Board-Approved Supervisor status through the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors & Therapists.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience as a Board-Approved Addictions Supervisor.
- Knowledge of COMAR, DEA regulations, and CARF standards.
- Familiarity with ASAM criteria and evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT, MI, trauma-informed care).
- Proficient with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems (ICANotes preferred).
- Excellent leadership, organization, and communication skills.
- Passion for integrating mindfulness, meditation, and holistic wellness into behavioral health treatment.
Compensation & Details
- Compensation: $65,378.49 to $77,253.17 per annum (commensurate with experience and credentials)

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor Position Overview
The SUD Counselor provides direct client services under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Director. Counselors deliver individual and group therapy, conduct assessments, and guide clients in building recovery skills, mindfulness practices, and emotional regulation strategies.
This role is ideal for compassionate professionals who value whole-person care, professional growth, and working within a collaborative, supportive team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct intakes, assessments, and biopsychosocial evaluations using ASAM criteria.
- Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans aligned with client goals.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions utilizing evidence-based and holistic techniques.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation (progress notes, treatment plans, discharges) in ICANotes.
- Coordinate care with community partners, referral sources, and supervising agencies.
- Participate in weekly supervision and ongoing professional development.
- Assist clients in relapse prevention, mindfulness, and emotional regulation.
- Contribute to team meetings, case reviews, and program evaluation.
- Ensure compliance with COMAR, CARF, and MHI documentation standards.
- Model MHI’s values of integrity, compassion, mindfulness, and accountability.
Qualifications
- Active Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapist certification or license (LCADC, LCAC, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, ADT).
- 1–2 years of experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment.
- Knowledge of ASAM criteria and evidence-based approaches.
- Proficiency in EHR systems (ICANotes experience preferred).
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Commitment to MHI’s holistic, client-centered model of care.
Compensation & Details
- Compensation: $41,615.17 – $52,627.32 (based on experience and credentials)
