The Applications Engineer assists Sales staff by providing technical information on the use of Mazak machine tools to produce customer parts/products, efficiently and with robust quality. This position reports to our Southwest Technology Center located in Houston, TX. Scope and Responsibilities: Essential duties include, but are not limited to the following: • Proactively attains a safe and healthy work environment for all employees • Provide telephone / e-mail customer support on the operation and use of Mazak Products. • Provide part processing / Machine recommendations to best produce customer parts as the stated part volumes. • Calculate time study estimates of machine cycle time. • Calculate a cost to manufacture customer parts including labor, and tooling/ work holding costs. • Conceptually design work holding and tooling as needed to support the manufacture of customer parts. • Demonstrate machine operation and machine features at trade shows and open house events. • Safely rig and install machines in Technology Centers and at trade show events. Provide customer training on safe machine operation and detailed machine functions at the customer facility. • Perform test cuts to demonstrate machine capability / prove processing concepts. • Perform full- turn key process development and testing including statistical analysis of part measurement. • Approximately 15% of travel is required Education/Certification: • Associates degree or certification in a related technical field plus two years of experience in a machine tool related field, or three to five years’ experience in a related position is required. • Bachelor’s degree in related field is preferred Skills: • Strong ability to communicate both written and orally with upper management, vendors, and customers. • Proven ability to effectively work in a team environment with other engineers. • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Mechanical ability to build fixtures, assemble tools and rig and level machines • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically strong in Excel • Experience with Mazatrol, EIA/G-Code Programming, CAD/CAM Programming software, Esprit or Mastercam, Fusion 360 or other EOE, including disability/vets
