Position Title: Assistant Coach
Reports to: Head Coach
Qualifications:
Two years of experience as an athletic coach is preferred.
Knowledge of the sport and its rules and regulations.
Employment with District and valid teacher’s certification preferred.
Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Athletic Director may find appropriate or acceptable.
Position Summary: The Assistant Coach will instruct groups or individual players in the fundamentals of a specific sport. They will help each participating student-athlete achieve a higher level of skills, an appreciation for the values of discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship and an increased level of self esteem while following the Mission, Vision, Philosophy, and Core Values of the Department and School District.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist the Head Coach in all matters pertaining to the Head Coach's areas of responsibility.
Cooperate with other coaches to provide programs and schedules that are in the best interest of the student-athletes and the Department.
Assist Head Coaches in supervision of programs.
Educates individuals, groups, or teams on the rules, strategies, and techniques for the sport.
Helps the Head Coach plan, organize, and lead practice sessions.
Trains, encourages, and motivates student-athletes to prepare them for competitive events.
Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced.
Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential.
Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; assigns positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses.
Ensures student-athletes are using equipment properly and safely.
Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly.
Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, technology relevant to particular sport, and maintains up to date coaching certifications.
Perform any additional reasonable duties as directed by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Extensive knowledge of the assigned sport.
Ability to work with student athletes.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to traverse various athletic grounds and facilities.
Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work shall be determined by and be consistent with the current agreement between the Maynard School Committee and the Maynard Education Association. Employment is contingent upon completing a satisfactory check of criminal records (C.O.R.I), and a suitable fingerprint check. All employees must complete all required training and certification programs deemed necessary by the School District or MIAA.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated by the Head Coach and Athletic Director in accordance with provisions of the current agreement between the Maynard School Committee and the Maynard Education Association.
