SUMMARY:

The Learning Center Program Assistant supports the academic success of middle school students by coordinating and supervising assessments across campus and ensuring that approved accommodations are implemented with fidelity. In addition to proctoring responsibilities, the Program Associate supports the Learning Center through small group instruction, occasional classroom support in upper elementary grades, and administrative tasks that support student services. This role requires strong organization, flexibility, and proactive communication to coordinate testing logistics while building positive relationships with students, teachers, and staff across campus.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional

  • Supervise students taking quizzes, tests, and exams in the school’s testing center.
  • Ensure approved testing accommodations (such as extended time, small-group setting, or assistive tools) are implemented according to each student’s accommodation plan.
  • Maintain a quiet, organized testing environment while monitoring students to ensure academic integrity and adherence to testing guidelines.
  • Track testing times to ensure students receive the appropriate extended time when applicable.
  • Manage testing materials before, during, and after assessments, including collecting, organizing, and returning completed assessments to teachers according to established testing protocols.
  • Communicate with teachers, Learning Center staff, and front office staff regarding test materials, timing, questions that arise during testing, and coordination of testing logistics and scheduling.
  • Support students during assessments by clarifying directions when appropriate, maintaining clear boundaries around test support, and responding calmly to student concerns or frustration while upholding testing protocols.
  • Provide occasional classroom support in upper elementary grades (3–4), assisting teachers with small group instruction, student supervision, and classroom activities as needed, and communicating proactively with teachers when testing responsibilities require schedule adjustments.
  • Assist the Learning Center team with administrative tasks including organizing materials, managing testing schedules, maintaining records, and coordinating accommodations.
  • Support the Learning Center team in creating a structured and supportive environment that helps students develop independence, organization, and confidence in their learning.

Other

  • Is visible and present on campus and at school activities
  • Performs any other job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned  
  • Shift: Monday-Friday 10:00am to 2:00pm

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures consistently.
  • Ability to create a calm testing environment while setting clear expectations and responding appropriately to student frustration or anxiety.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Initiative and ability to work independently while managing multiple responsibilities, schedule changes, and communication with multiple teachers and staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate logistics across multiple teachers and departments.
  • Collaborative, patient, and flexible approach to working with students and colleagues
  • Commitment to the school Mission and Goals
Qualifications:
  • AA in child development or related field preferred.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with testing accommodations and student support services.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job the employee works in an environment where the noise level is usually moderate and constant distractions due to constant foot traffic, phones ringing, and people talking.
