Position Overview

The Culture Behavior Specialist is responsible for managing and supporting multiple facets of student culture and climate entities. Additionally, this role is responsible for creating a positive school culture and sustaining a safe learning environment by monitoring student movement, promoting conflict resolution, empowering students to make responsible decisions, and collaborating with all school stakeholders (i.e., teachers, administration, support staff, parents/guardians, and students) on various student-centered initiatives.

Specific Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To

  • Oversee the Behavior Orientation Intervention Program: Habits of Success and Decision Making for Success courses.
  • Facilitate student re-entry meetings with parents and guardians and support student mediation.
  • Establishing and implementing appropriate policies and procedures given our scholars' social, emotional, and cultural experiences.
  • Manage student discipline referrals and procedures.
  • Developing protocols within the school's student handbook for preventing and managing crises among students or in the school.
  • Ensure all students adhere to school policies and procedures regarding uniforms, assigned locations, student conflicts, student-staff conflicts, and holding students accountable.
  • Communicate pertinent information for students and staff when needed regarding student discipline
  • Ensure students are held accountable for their actions while providing support for behavioral improvement. Work closely with the Student Support Team to develop interventions and support systems for students at risk of exclusion.
  • Enforcing school-wide rules/expectations and holding students accountable.
  • Teaches and models prosocial behaviors and restorative practices.

All Culture Team members are expected to,

  • Implements school-wide programs to enhance culture (peer mediation, group sessions, restorative circles, town halls, mentoring, and LiveSchool).
  • Collaborates with counselors, staff, and parents to address academic and behavioral issues.
  • Participates in professional development and meetings.
  • Maintains visibility in hallways and common areas to prevent disruptions.
  • Assists with student movement as directed by the Principal and Assistant Principal.
  • Intervenes in conflicts and communicates with the administrative team and staff to address behavioral concerns.
  • Implements de-escalation strategies and writes incident reports.
  • Maintains professionalism and serves on the Emergency Response Team.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Work independently, meet deadlines and accomplish specific tasks as requested
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with instructional and administrative staff
  • Intervene in elevated student behavior events
  • Ability to climb stairs and spend long periods of time walking and standing
  • Meet the physical rigors of TACT2 training strategies
  • Maintain confidentiality surrounding sensitive student information
  • Establish and maintain professional and supportive relationships with students with the objective of supporting their educational goals

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (required)
  • Bachelor's Degree or pursuit of a bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • 3 or more years of experience working with opportunity youth in an educational setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Documents, and email
  • Experience managing the discipline of youth between the ages of 13 and up
  • Experience with socio-emotional learning, behavior management, and restorative justice principles and practices preferred
  • Trained in TACT2 or willing and eligible to receive TACT2 training and certification
  • Strong collaboration skills with colleagues in different departments
  • Managerial and customer service experience is a plus
