Job Summary
The Senior Software Manufacturing Engineer has a comprehensive scope of responsibilities aimed at enhancing production efficiency, reducing costs, improving quality, and troubleshooting production issues. Working cross-functionally within the company and collaboration with external engineering partners in RFPs, SOWs, and design development is a focus for this role. The Senior Software Manufacturing Engineer bridges software development and hardware production, develops manufacturing tools, scripts, and systems to automate testing, programming, and configuration of our Autonomous Drive Kit. This role will engage teams throughout production process; from supply partners, line-side at the integration plant, and post-production service.
As a Senior with the team, leadership responsibilities include leading PFMEAs, participating in safety review activities, and mentoring junior engineers on relevant best practices.
Essential Responsibilities
- Software Deployment: Develop and maintain software for flashing, testing, and calibrating hardware products during production.
- Production Line Support: Troubleshoot and resolve software-related issues on the manufacturing line to minimize downtime.
- Automation & Tooling: Create scripts and tools to automate testing and data collection for quality control.
- Process Improvement: Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to assembly processes.
- Validation: Collaborate with hardware teams to validate software functionality during new product introduction (NPI)
- Prepare configuration process and documentation to Assist supply chain with sourcing
- Responsible for efficiency, cost, and quality improvement projects for production
- Develop in-process check procedures, work instructions and tooling requirements.
- Solicit and formalize requirements to improve manufacturability and design robustness with internal and external stakeholders
Skills and Abilities
Success in this role typically requires the following competencies:
- Familiarity with designing and executing process validations
- Proficient with 3D CAD software of mechanical and/or electrical components
- Proficient in rapid prototyping, 3-D printing technologies, and basic machining tools
- Proficiency writing embedded code in C/C
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across functional teams
- Interest and ability to mentor more junior Engineers
- Ability to read electrical schematics and use oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to debug embedded software
- Deep understanding of autonomous vehicle hardware and sensor technology
- General knowledge of vehicle communication protocols
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates most successful in this role typically hold the following qualifications or comparable knowledge or experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Computer Science
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a manufacturing or software engineering capacity
- Demonstrated foundation in data structures and algorithms including the ability to troubleshoot software configured hardware issues
- Strong background in technical and project leadership
Desirable
- Master’s Degree in Engineering
- Knowledge of Sensor or Automotive ECU configuration
- Knowledge of ADAS systems
- Experience developing for bare metal/state based, RTOS, and/or Linux operating system environments
- Experience implementing hardware device drivers and communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, and CAN
- Prior experience integrating with vehicle platform and deep knowledge of vehicle communication protocols
