Job Title: Automotive Technician (4-Day Week Available)
Company: May Automotive LLC
Locations: Kalamazoo (734 Portage St) or Portage (6841 S. Westnedge)
Pay: $[25]–$[35]/hr base flat-rate incentive, paid weekly
Tired of the dealership grind? Bring your skills somewhere they’re valued.
May Automotive was founded by a tech with 18 years of OEM dealership experience. We know what you’re used to: fighting for warranty time, getting buried in quick-lube work, and being treated like a number. We built this shop to be different, with independent-shop honesty and dealership-level accountability.
We’re a diagnostics-heavy shop specializing in diesel, Asian imports, fleet work, and the tough electrical, drivability, and noise problems other shops send our way. If you like solving problems rather than just swapping parts, you’ll fit in here.
Why techs choose us
- 4-day work week at Kalamazoo: Mon–Thu, 7:30am–5:30pm. Every weekend is three days.
- Portage schedule: Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm. No nights.
- Weekly pay: Base pay plus a flat-rate incentive. You get stability and you’re rewarded for production.
- 80 hours PTO per year: Prorated by start date and available after the probationary period.
- Uniforms provided.
- Fun and Team oriented shop culture
- Real diagnostic work: Customers and other shops come to us for the hard jobs.
- A 3-year/36K-mile nationwide warranty on our work. We stand behind it, and we expect work that’s done right the first time.
What we’re looking for
- Michigan State mechanic certifications (required)
- A strong understanding of all vehicle systems: engine, electrical, drivability, brakes, steering and suspension, HVAC, and drivetrain
- Dealership experience strongly preferred
- Diesel and/or Asian import experience is a plus
- Your own tools and a valid driver’s license
- You write a detailed story. Every repair order you touch should clearly explain the concern, the cause, and the correction, including what you tested and what you found. That documentation is how we educate customers, back up our warranty, and earn trust. If you take pride in a well-written RO, we want to talk to you.
Our values
Integrity. Precision. Ownership. Teamwork. Growth. Community.
To apply: Submit your resume and answer the screening question below. Applications without the story sample won’t be considered.
- Do you hold current Michigan State mechanic certifications? Which areas? (Required)
- How many years of dealership experience do you have, and with which brands?
- Write the RO story for a diagnostic job you’re proud of: the concern, what you tested, what you found, and the correction. (Required. )
