The Category 6 (Cat6) Low Voltage CCTV Technician is responsible for the installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of structured cabling and IP-based surveillance systems. The technician will install Cat6 cable infrastructure, CCTV cameras, network devices, and related low-voltage equipment while ensuring all work complies with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, route, secure, and terminate Category 6 (Cat6) network cabling.
- Install IP and analog CCTV cameras, network video recorders (NVRs), digital video recorders (DVRs), monitors, and related equipment.
- Mount cameras, conduits, cable trays, and support hardware.
- Test, certify, and troubleshoot Cat6 cabling using cable certification equipment.
- Configure and troubleshoot IP cameras, network switches, PoE devices, and surveillance systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and low-voltage system drawings.
- Label and document cable installations according to project standards.
- Perform cable pulls through conduit, ceilings, walls, and underground pathways.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, local electrical codes, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work vehicles in safe operating condition.
- Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, and customers to complete projects on schedule.
- Diagnose and repair camera, network, and cabling issues during service calls.
Required Qualifications
- Experience installing Cat5e/Cat6 structured cabling.
- Experience with CCTV surveillance systems and IP networking.
- Knowledge of cable termination standards (TIA/EIA-568).
- Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with PoE switches, routers, and network infrastructure.
- Proficient with cable testing and certification tools.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work from ladders, lifts, and scaffolding.
- Ability to work indoors, outdoors, and in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Low Voltage or Security Installer certification.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Lift certification.
- Manufacturer certifications (Axis, Hanwha, Avigilon, Verkada, Genetec, or similar).
- Experience with access control and intrusion alarm systems.
