Maxwell Construction is seeking a safety-focused Class A CDL Driver to support underground utility construction operations throughout Eastern Iowa Corridor. This position is responsible for safely transporting construction equipment, materials, and supplies to and from jobsites while maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company policies, and industry safety standards.
The Class A CDL Driver serves as a critical member of the field operations team and is expected to demonstrate professionalism, dependability, strong communication skills, and a commitment to protecting company assets. This position requires attention to detail, sound judgment, and a strong sense of ownership for assigned vehicles and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities
The CDL Driver will operate company vehicles and assist jobsite operations while maintaining strict compliance with transportation and safety regulations.
Key duties include:
- Transport heavy equipment, construction materials, pipe, aggregate, and related project supplies.
- Operate and transport equipment using: Lowboy trailers, Step deck trailers, Dump trucks, Side dumps, Equipment trailers, Tractor-trailer combinations
- Load, unload, and secure cargo utilizing chains, binders, straps, blocks, and other approved securement devices.
- Assist with equipment mobilization and demobilization activities.
- Coordinate deliveries and pickups with project superintendents, foremen, dispatch personnel, vendors, and suppliers.
Essential Work Activities
This role regularly involves:
- Operating commercial vehicles and construction transport equipment
- Inspecting equipment, cargo, and materials to ensure safe operation
- Monitoring jobsite conditions and coordinating with field crews
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in outdoor construction environments and active jobsites.
Employees in this role can expect:
- Frequent contact and coordination with construction crews and supervisors
- Responsibility for the safety of equipment, coworkers, and the general public
- Repetitive physical motions associated with vehicle inspections and cargo securement
- Use of required personal protective equipment including safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required for tractor-trailer combinations. No Restrictions. Air brake endorsement. Willingness to obtain tanker endorsement.
- Ability to operate commercial trucks and construction transport equipment safely
- Ability to inspect vehicles, cargo, and jobsite conditions accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and field crews
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating lowboy, step deck, side dump, or dump truck equipment
- Experience working in construction or heavy equipment environments
- Knowledge of load securement and transportation safety procedures
Education and Training
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- On-the-job training will be provided
- Experience requirements vary depending on equipment operated
Physical and Safety Requirements
The position requires the ability to:
- Safely operate commercial vehicles and related equipment
- Perform vehicle inspections and secure cargo
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Follow all company safety rules and regulatory requirements

Job Type
Position is permanent full-time. Overtime and occasional Saturday’s during the construction season.
