What are the responsibilities and job description for the Excavating Field Lead/ Foreman position at Maxterra Excavation & Construction?
Company Overview: Maxterra Excavation & Construction specializes in precision site preparation all around Northeast Ohio, offering services such as gravel and concrete foundations, drainage solutions, hardscape installations, excavation, and demolition. We pride ourselves on protecting our clients' investments, preserving their yards with a light-footprint approach, and providing peace of mind through professional and customer-focused service.
You will start each day at our office in Chesterland.
We are looking for a Field Leader who wants to take ownership of projects and grow into a leadership role within our company.
The Role: This isn't a "wait for instructions" job. You will grow to be the lead person on-site. You’ll be operating small equipment one hour and talking to a homeowner or checking elevations the next.
Why Join Maxterra?
- Autonomy: We trust our leads. Once you prove your skills, you run the show.
- Career Path: Within 3 months, the goal will be for you to transition from working alongside the owner to leading your own projects independently.
- Modern Equipment: We take pride in our small fleet and our work environment.
- Impact: Your work directly impacts the growth of the company.
What You’ll Do:
- Within one season, you'll lead residential excavation projects (shed pads, driveways, drainage, and clearing).
- Operate excavators, skid steers, and loaders with precision.
- Eventually manage an operator or laborer, ensuring safety and quality.
- Interface with customers to ensure 100% satisfaction before you leave the site.
- Perform basic maintenance
What We Need From You:
- Experience: 2-3 years years of small equipment operation preferred (Skidsteer, Mini-Excavator)
- Mindset: You treat the equipment and the projects like you own the company.
- Skill: You will learn to read a site plan, determine grades, and understand drainage without being told twice.
- Communication: You are professional, well-spoken, and comfortable talking to customers.
- Licensing: Valid Driver’s License (CDL Class A or B is a huge plus).
- Flexibility: You aren’t "too big" to hop out of the cab and grab a shovel or a rake when the job requires it.
- Efficiency: Arrive on time, groomed, and prepared for work each day, demonstrating professionalism and dependability.
- Hard Work: You'll do Manual labor such as digging, leveling and spreading dirt, gravel or earth, hitch trailers, load equipment and use various tools.
We guarantee to keep you working March through November. Opportunities for winter work are weather dependent and we encourage employees to find another role snow plowing, delivery driving, etc. You will be welcomed back each season.
Starting pay is based on experience. We are looking for a Field Lead who can eventually manage residential sites independently. As you take over project management and site leadership from the owner, your compensation will increase to reflect those responsibilities.
Ready to lead? Apply today with your resume and a brief description of the most complex residential project you’ve completed.
