Mechanical Pre-Assembler - 2nd Shift

SUMMARY

Preparation of various shaft components for assembly of completed product.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• Cut leaf sections to length according to engineering drawings and as directed by standard procedures.
• Deburr and radius ends of leaf sections for clean finish.
• Obtain pre-picked parts from holding area and verify correct part numbers as identified on material list.
• Assemble and crimp or stake button, lugs, and/or springs to leaf sections.
• Drill pin holes in lugs for loading at final assembly.
• Flame harden buttons and lug sections.
• Polish, roll stamp and deburr bodies.
• Spot face internal leaves for buttons according to engineering drawings.
• Counter sink external leaves to proper depth for required screws.
• Move completed work to proper holding area with identifying paperwork according to established quality control procedures.
• Maintain and record time sheets for each operation performed.
• Maintain neat and clean working area, inform supervisor of any equipment defects.
• Wear and maintain proper safety equipment including proper footwear, safety glasses, and hearing protection where required.
• Assist in other areas of manufacturing as required.
• Work in a safe manner at all times following established policies and procedures.
  
  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• High school education.
• Six months’ experience desired in a mechanical field or trade school/machine shop education desired.
• Working knowledge of blueprint reading and basic inspection methods desired.
• Ability to carry out detailed written, verbal, or schematic instructions with supervisory guidance.
• Mathematical aptitude in calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request parts or supplies verbally or in writing.
  
  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, 20 lbs. of force frequently, and 10 lbs. of force constantly to move product.
• Good, corrected vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
• Strenuous position requiring continuous reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, hand/finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, and occasional stooping, crouching, and repetitive motion.
  
  

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Excessive noise and dust of a typical machine shop atmosphere.
• Non-air-conditioned environment.
• Equipment moving hazards of forklifts, transportation vehicles, and moving product.
• Significant work pace which varies by the amount of products shipped daily.
