We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Compliance Specialist to manage and monitor the rapidly evolving regulatory landscape for Kratom and Vapor products across the United States. This role is critical to ensure our products remain compliant in every state and jurisdiction where we operate.
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, this position serves as the internal authority on Kratom and vape compliance. The Compliance Specialist will proactively track legislative and regulatory changes, determine product eligibility by state, and provide early warnings on laws and regulations before they go into effect.
This is a strategic, high-visibility role with direct impact on product decisions, sales execution, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Monitoring & Interpretation
- Continuously monitor federal, state, and local laws affecting Kratom and vapor products.
- Track pending legislation, enacted laws, rulemaking, emergency orders, and enforcement trends.
- Interpret complex and evolving regulations and translate them into clear, actionable guidance for the business.
State-by-State Product Compliance
- Maintain and update a state-by-state compliance matrix outline:
- Kratom legality, labeling, registration, and consumer protection requirements.
- Vape restrictions including flavored bans, nicotine limits, excise taxes, and registry requirements.
- Determine which products and SKUs may be sold, restricted, or prohibited in each state.
Labeling & Registration Oversight
- Review and advise on state-specific Kratom labeling requirements.
- Track and manage required product registrations, filings, renewals, and reporting obligations.
- Identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions in coordination with leadership.
Internal Communication & Risk Management
- Proactively notify the COO and relevant departments of:
- Upcoming laws and effective dates
- Regulatory changes impacting sales or distribution
- Potential compliance risks or enforcement exposure
- Prepare concise summaries, timelines, and action plans for leadership decision-making.
- Serve as the primary internal resource for compliance-related questions.
Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain organized regulatory documentation and compliance records.
- Assist with regulatory inquiries, audits, or information requests as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Strong research, analytical, and regulatory interpretation skills.
- Experience tracking or working with state-level regulations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple jurisdictions simultaneously.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and stay ahead of regulatory changes.
Preferred
- Experience with Kratom, vapor, nicotine, hemp, alcohol, or other regulated consumer products.
- Familiarity with:
- State product registries
- Label compliance requirements
- Flavored vape bans and nicotine regulations
- Background in compliance, regulatory affairs, legal research, or public policy.
- Experience creating compliance matrices, trackers, or regulatory dashboards.
