The Cytology Specimen Processor is responsible for the meticulous handling and processing of gynecologic specimens to ensure accurate diagnosis and patient care. This role involves receiving, sorting, and verifying specimens, ensuring they match requisitions, and documenting any discrepancies. The processor is also responsible for the proper storage and testing of specimens, accurate data entry, and operating specialized laboratory equipment.
Essential Functions:

- Receiving, sorting and handling of gynecologic specimens
- Ensuring all patient specimens received match the corresponding requisitions
- Documentation of any discrepancies during the receiving process, i.e. different patient names, incorrect requisition
- Ensuring proper storage and testing of specimens
- Data Entry – entering pertinent patient information and procedure names into the system accurately to ensure proper patient diagnosis as well as printing out additional labels when necessary
- Processing of pap specimens
- Runs T-2000, T-5000, and Totalys
- Accessioning all Pap Cases
- Filing of cytology slides after final review
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1-2 years of pap specimen processing
- Computer Knowledge
- Type rate 50-60 wpm
- Accuracy
