Responsible for accurately filing, retrieving, and organizing pathology slides and blocks, ensuring efficient workflow and proper storage. Maintains slide library and supports lab operations through precise recordkeeping and attention to detail.

Responsible for accurately filing, retrieving, and organizing pathology slides and blocks, ensuring efficient workflow and proper storage. Maintains slide library and supports lab operations through precise recordkeeping and attention to detail.
Essential Functions:

- Files pathology slides and blocks in correct numerical and/or alphabetical order.
- Retrieves slides and blocks as requested by pathologists, histotechnologists, or other authorized personnel.
- Maintains an organized and accurate slide and block filing system.
- Assists with locating missing slides or blocks through detailed records and communication with other departments.
- Performs regular audits to verify slide inventory accuracy.
- Prepares and pulls slides for consultations, QA review, and outside requests.
- Packages and logs slides for transport or shipment to external facilities.
- Monitors filing supplies and notifies supervisor when restocking is needed.
- Cleans and organizes the slide filing area regularly.
- Follows all lab safety, environmental, and infection control protocols.
- Discard retained specimens / slides according to departmental protocol and time frames
- Record temperature control for monitoring
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Graduate or GED: Required
- 1-2 years of laboratory, filing, or administrative experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail
- Good organizational skills
- Dependable and self-motivated
