Our client, a manufacturer of turbojet engines, is seeking a Chief Propulsion Design Engineer who will lead the technical design, analysis, and optimization of jet propulsion systems, contributing to the development of high-performance aircraft engines. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, project management, extensive experience in propulsion systems, and a passion for advancing aerospace technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead major propulsion development projects, ensuring compliance with all technical and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct trade studies to guide design decisions and down-selections.
- Design turbomachinery components for performance, durability, and manufacturability at scale.
- Perform structural and aerodynamic analysis to support development and resolve in-service issues.
- Maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Provide technical oversight to ensure quality and consistency across engineering outputs.
- Create and execute test plans for propulsion systems, from component validation to performance optimization.
- Support the evolution of NPI processes and define the company's propulsion technology roadmap
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field; Master's or PhD preferred.
- 10 years of experience in gas turbine design and development, from concept through testing.
- Proficiency in CAD and engineering tools (e.g., FEA, CFD).
- Expertise in GD&T per ASME standards.
- Deep knowledge of gas turbine physics: thermodynamics, fluids, structures, materials.
- Strong understanding of aerospace manufacturing methods: welding, brazing, casting, additive, etc.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and presenting technical content clearly.
- Self-driven, collaborative, and passionate about solving complex challenges.
- U.S. citizenship required due to defense-related work.
- Willingness to travel up to 15%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Jet engine testing experience.
- Depth in emerging jet engine manufacturing techniques and materials
- Familiarity with military/aerospace design standards (e.g., MIL-STD).
- Experience with advanced turbine materials and high-performance systems.
- Proficiency with PTC solutions, Windchill, Creo, and ANSYS (Mechanical, Fluent, CFX).
- Background in DFM/DFA for scalable manufacturing.
