Job Title: Prevention Specialist
Location: Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Williams Counties (travel required)
About Us:
Maumee Valley Guidance Center (MVGC) is a community mental health organization dedicated to promoting wellness, prevention, and access to care. We are seeking a motivated Prevention Specialist who is passionate about supporting individuals, schools, and communities through evidence-based prevention programming.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement prevention programs focused on mental health awareness, social and emotional learning, suicide prevention, and substance use prevention.
- Deliver evidence-based prevention education in schools and community settings
- Provide engaging presentations to a variety of audiences, including early elementary students with the use of puppets.
- Develop and maintain accurate documentation, reports, and educational materials.
- Collaborate with community partners and stakeholders to support prevention initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Excellent written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Passion for community outreach and prevention-based work
Requirements:
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Williams Counties
- Ability to manage multiple programs and schedules
- May include some weekend and evening hours to attend events
Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred (e.g. psychology, education, human services); Associate’s degree considered in a related field.
- Ohio Prevention Specialist Certification required, or willingness to obtain certification within a specified timeframe
Additional Requirements:
- Must meet minimum age requirement of 21
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance required due to travel expectations
