DIRECT REPORT: Director of Retail

HOURS: Hourly Part-time (20-34 hours a week) and Full-time (35-40 hours per week), (day shift, on call, weekends, and occasional night functions)

STARTING PAY: $17.50/Hr

Position Summary

Looking for a strong, friendly, and hard-working individual with an experienced background in retail with some supervisory experience to join our retail team. We are looking for someone with a positive and upbeat attitude, and someone who enjoys selling and providing world-class customer service in a fun, fast-paced environment. Our Retail Sales Leads supervise our sales floor and work closely with other retail employees to help to drive sales and assist in various ways on the sales floor. We are looking for a Sales Lead candidate who is flexible and who can also work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift. Maui Ocean Treasures Gift Shop is the official gift shop of Maui Ocean Center. We are the most unique gift shop on Maui and we offer items that include apparel, books, marine-themed gifts, Hawaiʻi made culinary items, bath & body products, jewelry, keiki toys, and so much more! We strive to provide exceptional customer service and to assist our guests with finding the perfect gift to commemorate their visit to Maui.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift 50lbs or more and be able to stand for long periods of time in order to assist customers on the sales floor, as well as helping with restocking the sales floor and helping with various projects
• Must be organized
• Must be comfortable working on a computer
• Assist customers with sales both on the sales floor, as well as via phone and e-mail
• Have a sense of ownership and pride in the aquarium and Maui Ocean Treasures
• Maintain upbeat, professional attitude
• Conduct positive interactions with customers­ and fellow employees
• Be able to effectively and comfortably communicate with others via phone, e-mail, etc.
• Actively contribute to meeting daily sales goals
• Help motivate Sales Associates and help to drive sales on the sales floor
• Help with various projects, such as cleaning, restocking, setting-up merchandise displays on the sales floor, etc.
• Responsible for handling customer returns, exchanges, and any other issues or concerns
• Must be a responsible individual who can be a reliable key holder
• Would help to prepare the store for opening and closing on a daily basis
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Some prior retail and supervisory experience required
• Great people skills, outgoing and pleasant. The ability to provide excellent customer service daily
• Reliability & punctuality
• Comfortable on the computer
• Can use a calculator to add/subtract/percentages etc…
• Self-Motivated & organized with attention to detail
• Able to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 – 9 hour shifts with breaks)
• Can bend, stoop, and lift at least 50 lbs
• Clear communication: this includes verbally and with reading/writing in the English language
• Comfortable and experienced with working on a computer-based Point-Of-Sale (POS) system
• Establish and maintain productive, professional relationships with other employees and effectively work as a team, as well as independently to perform all job requirements
• Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, holidays, and the occasional night shift
